EDMONTON, Alberta — Today, BioTalent Canada and BioAlberta announced the joint launch of The PetriDish™ BioAlberta job board, providing Alberta bioeconomy employers with a proven platform to attract highly skilled talent.
According to BioTalent Canada’s 2018 Labor Market Mapping Potential report, Alberta’s bioeconomy is thriving with more than 230 biotech companies, 21 post-secondary institutions and more than $650 million in annual revenue generated.
As an organization that supports the people behind life-changing science, BioTalent Canada bridges the gap between job-ready talent and employers. For Alberta’s biotech sector to increase its annual revenue by $650 million, it needs an infusion of talent.

“Facilitating the process of connecting bioeconomy employers with Canada’s best and brightest has been BioTalent Canada’s modus operandi since day one,” said Rob Henderson, President and CEO, BioTalent Canada. “The fastest way to connect two dots is a straight line and The PetriDish™ BioAlberta will serve as a straight line between job providers and job seekers.”
Modeled after BioTalent Canada’s national bilingual biotech job board, The PetriDish™ BioAlberta will offer employers the same benefits of narrowing down their search for candidates by providing more relevant candidates in the bioeconomy. And for talent, a dedicated job board for healthcare and bioscience roles helps cut through the noise of more generalized job boards.
“We’ve seen the success of organizations finding talent specific to the needs of the bioeconomy through the national PetriDish™ and we wanted to replicate that regionally,” says Robb Stoddard, President and CEO of BioAlberta. “BioAlberta is looking at ways to expand the range of services we offer our stakeholders and believes that a dedicated job site will attract the best and brightest talent to Alberta’s biotechnology sector.
