Edison’s volleyball team leads Toronto in five sets | News, Sports, Jobs


TORONTO – The Edison volleyball team ruined Toronto’s senior night, winning the last two sets to come back and win in five, 25-20, 12-25, 24-26, 29-27, 15-13 on Tuesday night .

For the Wildcats, now 2-8, Gracie Fox had 12 hits, 13 kills and 10 digs, Savanna Ankrom 20 hits, five kills and five digs, Olivia Huff 10 hits, three kills and nine blocks, Rebecka Evans 10 assists, 11 hits and four assists, Alexandria Ash 12 hits, five assists and three blocks and Hailey Teichman 16 assists.

Toronto (7-9) was led by Andrea Reeves with three aces, 23 digs and 23 assists, Hannah Dobbs five aces, 25 digs, 14 kills and three blocks, Ashton Thomas 12 blocks and three assists, Callie Anderson five aces , eight assists and 22 digs, Taylie Thomas 56 digs and Jenna Anderson seven assists, two assists and three blocks.

Edison will travel to East Liverpool on Thursday, while Toronto will travel to Wheeling Central on Thursday.

Big Red Boys Edge Beaver

STEUBENVILLE – JJ Burchfield and Anthony Shevlin scored goals leading the Big Red boys’ soccer team to a 2-1 win over Beaver Local on Tuesday night at the Reno Saccoccia Pitch inside Harding Stadium.

Aidan Morales and Nick Nurczyk each collected an assist for Big Red (5-5-3).

JP Walsh made five saves for the winners goal.

Johnny Wilson scored the Beavers’ lone goal.

John Mondak made 12 stops for the visitors.

Big Red is scheduled to play Catholic Central at 2 p.m. Saturday at home during the annual Together We Care event.

Brooke overcomes Oak Glen

WELLSBURG – The Brooke boys’ soccer team scored goals by three different players en route to a 3-2 home win over Oak Glen on Tuesday.

The Bruins (7-5-1) had one goal and two assists from Ben Ferguson, one goal each from Devin Cipoletti and Dylan Black and one assist from Eddie Marks.

Jeremy Gilchrist made eight saves in goal for Brooke.

Oak Glen’s goals came from Stephon Polly and Garrett Allen, while Torrin Smith made 17 saves in goal.

Red Riders stop Linsly

WEIRTON – Weir’s women’s football team beat Linsly at home on Tuesday 2-0.

Jaidyn Kelly and Lexie Fayak each scored for Weir High (3-6-2), while Liv Baker and Jules Glodowski had assists.

Rayna Hoover made seven saves in goal for the shutout.

The Red Riders head to Big Red today at 6 p.m.
