Vancouver Whitecaps vs FC Dallas – Football Game Report – September 25, 2021
Brian White scored the game’s only goal in the 20th minute and Maxime Crepeau saved a last minute penalty as the Vancouver Whitecaps did just enough to defeat FC Dallas 1-0 on Saturday night in a key the Western Conference in British Columbia, Canada.
After leading everywhere, Vancouver turned to Crepeau to save the three points, and he was up to it. He dove to his right to make the save on a Franco Jara penalty six minutes after the second half timeout after a foul on FC Dallas’ Jader Obian in the box.
The Whitecaps (8-8-9, 33 points) moved up to eighth in the West standings, three points and one spot below the playoff line. Vancouver is now 6-1-4 in its last 11 games and 4-0-2 in its first goals this season.
White put the Whitecaps on the board in the 20th minute, working through the box to get in position to come home a pass through Russell Teibert and beat Dallas goalie Jimmy Maurer in the right corner.
FC Dallas topped the game stats, gaining advantages in possession percentage (59.1% to 40.9%), passing accuracy (82.8% to 76.1%), total passing (559- 377), shots on goal (7-5) and tackles won.
Crepeau turned back seven shots to register his fourth clean sheet of the season and earned his 10th shutout in a nine-year MLS career. He dove in to make saves on Ricardo Pepi in the 78th minute and Jesus Ferreira in the 80th to keep Dallas off the board, but those saves only set the table for his last minute exploits.
FC Dallas (6-11-9, 27 points) are now 2-4-3 in their last 10 games (with two wins in that span over expanding Austin FC, the West’s last team. ) and remains in 11th place with seven games to play in its program.
Saturday’s game was the team’s first with interim head coach Marco Ferruzzi at the helm. Ferruzzi replaced FC Dallas after Luchi Gonzalez was sacked by the team earlier this week.
