WSOC: Braves meet Friends Falcons, 2-1

WICHITA, Kansas – The uOttawa women’s soccer team failed against the Friends Falcons on Wednesday in Wichita, 2-1.

The friends got on the scoreboard first in the eighth minute and took a 1-0 lead. Senior Reighna Werner continued her strong offensive momentum by tying the game in 16the minute on an assist from Emma Nilsson, it brought the score to 1-1. Ottawa would be able to get one more shot in the half but couldn’t take the lead and the teams went into the locker room with the score tied 1-1.

In the second half, both teams were stuck at one goal each for the first 34 minutes. Friends was able to take the lead in the 80se minute and went up 2-1. The Braves tried to tie the game to send him to overtime, but couldn’t do so. Ultimately, Ottawa fell to Friends, 2-1.

Inside the box score

Reighna Werner scored another goal, her third in four games. Emma Nilsson added her first assist of the season. Jessenia Velez, Stormi Garcia and Katla Gardarstdottir all had a shot on goal. Willow Good started in goal for the Braves and finished with five saves in 90 minutes.


The Braves (4-7-2, 3-4-1) will have a quick turnaround as they host the Southwestern Moundbuilders on Friday, October at AdventHealth Field. The match will start at 5 p.m. Friday, it will be the Alumni and Senior evening for the Braves. Also on Friday, SALT and the football teams will organize a drive-in collection of school supplies to help children in the local school district.
