WSOC: Courageous look to continue Wednesday wins over Saint Mary at AdventHealth Field

OTTAWA, Kansas – The University of Ottawa’s women’s soccer team will look to continue their winning streak on Wednesday, September 27, when they host the University of Saint Mary’s Spiers.
The Braves claimed their first victory in the KCAC game by beating the Sterling College Warriors, 3-0. Ashby Owen scored his second goal of the season. Denaya Evans and Carolina Jennerwein scored their first goal of the season. Ivett Accevedo contributed his first goal of the season. Anna Tropansky started in goal for the Braves and finished with four saves in 90 minutes. Ottawa won the advantage over Sterling, 29-7.
Ottawa is currently second in the KCAC rankings. Ottawa ranks 2nd in NAIA for shooting percentage (0.375), 31st in NAIA for goals scored (6), 34th in NAIA for assists (4) and 34th in NAIA for corner kicks (4).
This will be the 22nd overall game between the Braves and the Spiers. Ottawa leads the overall series, 16-6-0. In the spring of 2021, Ottawa overthrew the Spiers by a score of 4-0. In that game, Denaya Evans scored a hat trick and Reighna Werner added an assist.
Saint Mary is 1-4-2 this season and 1-2 at the KCAC. The Spiers defeated the McPherson Bulldogs on September 25, 2-1 for their first victory in the KCAC game. Justin Seever is in his 10th season as the head coach of the Spiers women’s soccer program. Katy St. Martin and Karleigh Enyart lead the team with two goals scored. Morgan Young leads the Spiers in assists with two and Maea Ploetz has made 65 saves this season in goal for the Spiers.
